A warm, patient teacher in your child's corner
I've spent 22 years teaching English in UK secondary schools, and the last four teaching online from my own little study. In that time I've met hundreds of students who arrived certain that English "wasn't their subject" — and left able to argue a point, structure an essay and enjoy a good book.
My teaching philosophy
I believe confidence comes first and grades follow. A student who feels safe enough to say "I don't understand" will learn far faster than one who's quietly hoping not to be asked. So my sessions are calm and conversational — we read closely, we talk about ideas, and we build a way of writing that actually sounds like them.
I'm methodical about exam technique, because it's the part students are most often left to guess at. We unpick mark schemes together, practise with real questions, and rehearse timings until the exam feels familiar rather than frightening.
Parents hear from me too. You'll always know what we're working on, what's improving and what we're focusing on next — no mystery, no jargon.
